    MLB Betting Trends

Published on Tuesday, June 7, 2011

Belmont betting enthusiasts, looking for a new niche after the Triple Crown wraps up this weekend, should look no further than Major League Baseball. Each year thousands of people try their hands at MLB betting, as it is the one sport in North America that you can actually end up with a profit at by season’s end. With 15 games set for today, here are a few games bettors should keep an eye on.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Philadelphia Phillies – This game features the top ranked Philadelphia Phillies taking on the Los Angeles Dodgers, whom are ranked fourth in the National League Central. The Dodgers are 17 – 26 this season when facing a right handed starter, while the Phillies have a team start record of 50 – 22 when against National League West opponents. On the one hand, all signs point to taking the Philadelphia Phillies in this matchup. However, Phillies pitcher Roy Oswalt hasn’t won a game in four starts despite giving up only a single run in each outing. Making matters more intriguing, the Dodgers send Rubby De La Rosa their top pitching prospect to the mound. De La Rosa is taking Jon Garland’s start, after the latter went on the disabled list with shoulder woes. Through five innings of relief work, De La Rosa has an earned run average under two. Prediction: Philadelphia takes this game two to one, as Oswalt finally gets his first win in five starts.

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Los Angeles Angels – Similar to the Phillies verses Dodgers game, this game features two teams headed in opposite directions. Over their last ten games, the Rays and Angels share identical records of four wins and six losses. However, the Rays won last night’s game by a score of five to one, and appear to be coming out of their recent slide. Meanwhile, the Angels have lost three games in a row, and pitcher Dan Haren is coming off the disabled list for his first start in a few weeks. Prediction: This will be Andy Cobb’s second big league start for Tampa Bay; however he appeared dominant at times in his first game, look for him to continue to dominate tonight in a Ray’s victory.
