    How To Bet On Golf

Published on Thursday, September 23, 2010

golfEver since Tiger Woods entered the PGA, golf betting has become one of the biggest niches in the industry. In golf there are three different ways for fans to bet on their favorite stars. Firstly, they can bet on a golfer to win the event outright, wager that they will finish in the top three, and finally bet on one golfer to finish ahead of another. Here is a look at each of the three methods.

    • Win The Event – When looking at golfing odds, the first thing one will notice is that they are set up as moneyline odds. The more likely the golfer is to win a tournament the lower the money is next to the line. Here is how it appears

    +150 Tiger Woods
    + 250 Phil Michelson
    +750 Jeff Overton

In this example, fans betting Tiger Woods would win $15 for every $10 they put down on him to win the event. Conversely, if Jeff Overton wins, fans would win $75 for every $10 they put down.

    • Finishing In The Top Three – Perhaps the hardest of the three bets to actually win at, predicting your golfer to finish in the top three sees the odds decrease considerably. For example, sportsbooks now have to payout three different bets similar to a horse race bet of across the board. Here is how it appears.

    -160 Tiger Woods
    +100 Phil Michelson
    +200 Jeff Overton

Fans taking Woods on a top three finish would receive a payout of $16 on every $10 if Woods finishes first, second or third. Meanwhile, Jeff Overton backers would win $20 on every $10 if he finished in first, second or third.

    • Finishing Ahead Of Another Golfer – When making a head to head wager, you main concern is that your golfer finishes ahead of a specific opponent. It doesn’t matter if they win the event and the opponent finishes second or if they finish 99th and 100th, just as long as your golfer finishes ahead of the one you are betting against.
